Salute to Luthor Vandross

Mother of Late Singer Luther Vandross Speaks Out on Behalf of
Diabetes Prevention

Huron Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic hospital, is the home of the internationally known Comprehensive Diabetes Self-Management Program of the hospital’s Lennon Diabetes Center. In the program, diabetes patients are educated about the disease and play an active role in managing it by making lifestyle changes, and monitoring their blood-sugar level.

At a recent event, sponsored by Huron Hospital Mrs. Vandross spoke out to draw attention to the prevalence of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other chronic illnesses, especially in the African American community. She encouraged audience members to get tested for these diseases, and keep family members informed about prescribed treatments.

Mrs. Vandross is now on a mission. The pain she has suffered from the loss Luther, the last surviving member of her immediate family, and other family members prior to him won’t silence her. In addition to Luther, her husband, also named Luther, two other children and a grandson succumbed to the diabetes or its complications or consequences.
